Abstract

Introduction: The job performance of workers exposed to biological risks is determined by their knowledge and skills in biological safety, which enable them to perform safe practices, prevent diseases, and provide quality services.

Objective: To characterize the job performance of workers exposed to biological risks at the National Center for Minimally Invasive Surgery during the period 2020-2024.

Methods: An observational, descriptive, cross-sectional study with a mixed approach was conducted. The study population consisted of 198 workers at the National Center for Minimally Invasive Surgery exposed to biological risks. Using simple random sampling, 98 workers were selected to form the study sample. Theoretical and empirical methods were used. A survey and a performance observation guide were administered to the workers, and a survey was administered to the heads of the departments. The authors used technology to identify problems and potentialities from Advanced Education.

Results: The most affected dimensions were cognitive and procedural, with more than 50% of the indicators evaluated as having a low performance level. The three indicators of the attitudinal dimension were evaluated as having a regular performance level.

Conclusions: The characterization of the job performance of workers exposed to biological risks at the National Center for Minimally Invasive Surgery allowed for an assessment of the performance level as fair and the identification of problems and potentialities that will serve as a guide for designing a training strategy aimed at this occupational risk group.
