Abstract

Introduction: Quality vision care requires optical personnel with up-to-date knowledge and practical skills in a context of accelerated technological advances. However, limitations that affect the work performance of these personnel have been identified.

Objective: To design a system of actions that favors the development of practical skills of optical personnel to improve their work performance in the municipalities of Marianao and East Havana.

Methods: A research of development and innovation in the field of medical education was carried out in the field of optics personnel in the referred municipalities, from January to June 2025. It had two stages: 1. characterization of the level of knowledge, skills and values of optical personnel; 2. design of the system of actions. The purposive sample consisted of 20 opticians who gave their consent to participate in the study. Theoretical methods (analysis-synthesis, modeling, systemic-structural) and empirical methods (surveys, observation, interviews and specialists' criteria) were used. The system was validated using the Delphi method with 12 experts.

Results: The system of actions was structured in four stages (diagnosis, planning, execution and evaluation-control), with specific objectives and actions. Expert consultation yielded a consensus in the category “quite adequate” for its relevance and applicability.

Conclusions: The implementation of the system of actions contributed to the development of practical skills and to the improvement of work performance and quality of services of optical personnel in Marianao and Habana del Este municipalities.
