Abstract

Introduction: The history of dermatology is closely linked to the development of medicine.

Objective: To present the theoretical foundations concerning the antecedents and current conceptions of the training process of dermatology specialists.

Methods: A historical-descriptive research was carried out. Theoretical methods were used: historical-logical and analytical-synthetic; as well as empirical methods: analysis of documents and observation.

Results: The training process has transited from a spontaneous and fragmented conception, based fundamentally on the use of hospitals-schools as teaching scenarios, to a training process essentially with practical activities, with a real link to the problems of the profession, as well as the structuring of a program that expresses the modes of professional performance to make up the occupational profile of respective jobs.

Conclusions: The theoretical and methodological inconsistencies revealed in the training process of the dermatology specialist lead to the integration of the clinical method; while the procedures within laboratory practice lead towards interdisciplinarity, systematization of contents and appropriation of research methods, which, put into practice, develop skills and knowledge in that training process.
