The Importance of the Problematic Situation within the System of Categories of Problematic Teaching

Abstract

Introduction: The problematic situation, considered a central link in problematic teaching due to its essence within this didactic system, remains little studied. A thorough understanding of its particularities is essential for teachers to successfully employ problematic teaching, mainly in medical science subjects.

Objective: To reflect on the significance of the category “problematic situation” and the way in which contradictions can be revealed to create it, wherefore the teaching-educational process in the Pathological Anatomy subject of the medical degree is taken as an example.

Development: The essence of the problematic situation and its effects on students are discussed, as well as the criteria of authors who have identified different ways of presenting the contradictory elements of the teaching content, in order to motivate students to search for new knowledge, given its importance in scientific-student activity, by promoting the improvement of skills in the search for new knowledge. Finally, the presentation of contradictions in the Pathological Anatomy subject is exemplified, based on the mastery of the scientific content expressed in the Plan E program for this subject in medicine.

Conclusions: Understanding the essence of the problematic situation, its relationships with the other categories and its functions within problematic teaching, as well as mastery of the teaching content, are essential for teachers to be able to structure more profitable classes using this approach.
