Abstract

Introduction: The increasingly accelerated generation of knowledge, coupled with information and communication technologies and their constant changes, presuppose greater use of scientific research in the search for solutions.

Objective: To elaborate the research competence profile of the graduate in Medical Imaging and Radiophysics.

Methods: A descriptive study was carried out in the Holguin campus school of Medical Sciences, in the period January-June 2023. An intentional sample of 12 specialists was selected, made up of imaging graduates, as well as base– and first-running-up–degree medical specialists in this field, belonging to the secondary care centers of Holguin municipality. The applied theoretical methods were the historical-logical, synthesis analysis and functional structural systemic; while the applied empirical method was review of documents. In addition, two critical reflection workshops were held to seek criteria on the relevance and importance of the proposal. The ethical principles of research were complied with in all cases.

Results: The research competence of the graduate in Medical Imaging and Radiophysics was structured with the characterization of the three knowledge (knowing, knowing how to do and knowing how to be), together with the performance criterions and the evidences for its follow-up.

Conclusions: The articulation of knowledge of research competence is manifested in knowing how to be as an expression of their professional performance in direct and harmonic relation with the teaching, research, assistance and administrative function that this professional must fulfill, and the work context where these are manifested. The research competence profile includes the operational definition, the description of the knowledge, the performance criterions and the follow-up evidence.
