Results of the Master's Degree in Atherosclerosis Research Twenty Years after its Creation

Abstract

Introduction: The Master's Degree in Atherosclerosis Research began in 2004 with the aim of training specialists from various branches of health care in the skills needed to conduct research on atherosclerosis.

Objective: To present the main results of the Master's Degree in Atherosclerosis Research in the training of human resources for the National Health System twenty years after its creation.

Methods: A descriptive study was conducted, presenting the main results of the master's program from 2004 to 2024.

Results: During the period analyzed, 11 editions of the program were developed, involving professionals from 28 medical specialties and health technologies, and 10 general practitioners of Chinese nationality, for a total of 344 graduates. The results on the development of research skills before and after completing the master's degree show a favorable change for the variables analyzed, mainly for information search and interpretation of research results and teamwork. Fifty-three percent of employers reported feeling satisfied and 47% very satisfied with the knowledge and skills acquired by graduates.

Conclusions: The results of twenty years of work in the Master's Degree in Atherosclerosis Research show a positive contribution to the training of human resources in health. It is a pillar in the training of specialists capable of facing this public health challenge, combining academic excellence with scientific research and social commitment.
