Composite Index of Learning and Clinical Disposition to Evaluate the Effectiveness of Professional Development Courses in Stomatology

Authors

Abstract

Introduction: Evaluating the effectiveness of professional development courses in stomatology requires valid and reliable instruments that integrate cognitive, procedural, and attitudinal dimensions. In this context, there is a need to develop a specific tool for this purpose.

Objective: To validate the content, factorial structure, and internal reliability of the Composite Index of Learning and Clinical Disposition to evaluate the effectiveness of professional development courses in stomatology.

Methods: A technological innovation study was conducted. The instrument was constructed with 18 items distributed across three domains: cognitive, procedural, and clinical disposition. Content validity was assessed by expert judgment using the Content Validity Index. Construct validity was analyzed using exploratory and confirmatory factor analysis. Internal reliability was estimated using Cronbach's alpha and McDonald's omega.

Results: The overall content validity index was 0.96, indicating a high level of consensus among the experts. Exploratory factor analysis showed a structure consistent with the theoretical model of three domains, while confirmatory factor analysis corroborated an adequate fit of the model. Cronbach's alpha and McDonald's omega coefficients were above 0.90 in the overall instrument and by domain, indicating excellent internal consistency.

Conclusions: The Composite Index of Learning and Clinical Disposition was developed with adequate content and construct validity and high reliability, making it a suitable tool for the comprehensive evaluation of professional development courses in stomatology.
