Neutrosophic Pedagogical Approach with Artificial Intelligence: The Use of Amniotic Membranes in Burn Treatment as an Illustrative Case

Abstract

Introduction: Higher medical education faces the challenge of training professionals capable of making clinical decisions in contexts characterized by uncertainty, ambiguity, and incomplete evidence. Traditional pedagogical approaches, grounded in binary logic and content memorization, are insufficient to address the complexity inherent in contemporary clinical practice.

Objective: To propose a neutrosophic pedagogical approach supported by artificial intelligence for higher medical education, using the treatment of burns with amniotic membranes as an illustrative case for developing competencies in the management of clinical uncertainty.

Methods: This study was conducted at the National University of Chimborazo between January and September 2025. It followed a theoretical–reflective review design, based on documentary analysis of relevant scientific literature on complexity theory, neutrosophy, medical education, and artificial intelligence. The review was structured in phases: identification of theoretical foundations, analysis of neutrosophic methodological proposals, and an illustrative application based on evidence related to the use of amniotic membranes in burn treatment.

Results: A pedagogical framework is proposed that integrates the Neutrosophic Epistemic Evaluation Protocol and the use of large language models as cognitive scaffolding tools. This approach enables the decomposition of clinical problems into dimensions of truth, indeterminacy, and falsity, fostering more critical and reflective clinical reasoning beyond the correct/incorrect dichotomy.

Conclusions: The integration of neutrosophy and artificial intelligence constitutes a relevant pedagogical paradigm for higher medical education, as it strengthens clinical decision-making and promotes an explicit understanding of the limits of scientific knowledge.
