Authors

Abstract

Introduction: Tracking graduates of medical specialty programs is a systematic and periodic process, aimed at evaluating the training received, monitoring the professional trajectory of graduates, and identifying their needs for updating and continuous education.

Objective: To present the fundamentals of tracking medical specialty graduates based on health needs in Ecuador.

Author's position: In Ecuador, there is a noted insufficient existence of a follow-up system for graduates of medical specialties, which would promote the alignment between social needs and the transformative capacity of the university, and respond to the current health demands of Ecuadorian society, due to the shortage of professionals in various specialties. Hence, the foundations are presented, whose implementation will impact the optimization of healthcare practice in the country.

Conclusions: The follow-up of medical specialty graduates, based on the needs of Ecuador, will promote the assessment and self-assessment of these professionals' performance in line with the ever-increasing demands of contemporary Ecuadorian society and the need to improve the quality of services in healthcare.
