Interdisciplinary Training of Nursing Students for the Integration of Metaparadigms in Comprehensive Care

Abstract

Introduction: The interdisciplinary strategy for the formation of metaparadigms -person, health, environment, and care- represents the epistemological and ontological foundation of nurse training within medical education.

Objective: To present a strategy for the interdisciplinary training of nursing students that allows the integration of metaparadigms into comprehensive care.

Methods: This was a developmental, quasi-experimental, qualitative, and prospective study aimed at integrating metaparadigms in care through the interdisciplinary training of higher-level nursing technical students. The design and implementation of the strategy were based on characterizing the current state of metaparadigm integration in care through interdisciplinary training of 31 higher-level nursing technical students from the Faculty of Nursing-Health Technology at the University of Medical Sciences of Santiago de Cuba. The study period lasted from January to December 2025.

Results: The strategy's actions made it possible to reach the appropriate level in 93.5% of cases, which was reflected in the practice of comprehensive care for individuals through the interdisciplinary training of the Human Morphology course content with the metaparadigms.

Conclusions: The implemented strategy led to establishing the essential relationships between the components and the foundations that distinguish it as a practical and viable proposal for integrating metaparadigms in care through interdisciplinary student training.
