Curriculum design of master's degree programs for health professionals

Abstract

Introduction: The master's degree expands its orientation according to the fundamental activities: research, assistance-research, teaching-research or administration-research. These new orientations are innovative in the curricular conceptions of master's degree programs, based on postgraduate regulations, where the concept of "academic credit" is relevant, together with contemporary trends for academic training at the highest level.

Objective: To elaborate the theoretical-methodological conceptions on the curricular design of master's degree programs, according to the new orientations of graduate education in our country.

Author's position: In order to achieve pertinent master's degree designs, on scientific, interdisciplinary bases, developers of the personality of health professionals and that assumes academic credit, these are elaborated on the basis of research, assistance, teaching and administration activities, with the peculiarity, that in these last three program orientations training, on-the-job education, and research are part of the academic master's degree education.

Conclusions: These curricular designs achieve greater relevance and excellence in the continuing education of health professionals, which has an impact on the quality of their functions and their performance in the service of the health of society.
