Abstract

Introduction: The quality of cancer registry data depends on maintaining a high level in the technical competences of the personnel that guarantee sustainability in the performance of their functions. Given the incorporation of new technicians and professionals linked to the cancer registry, the need to train new professors, among other reasons, the National Cancer Registry of Cuba has proposed to develop a continuous training plan based on the “Trainer of Trainers” teaching strategy.

Objective: To evaluate the training needs related to cancer registries among professionals linked to this information system.

Methods: An observational, descriptive, cross-sectional, qualitative-quantitative study was carried out to identify knowledge and training needs. Anonymous surveys were sent by e-mail, and two instruments were designed for data collection, according to the study group.

Results: 167 surveys were received, 57.5 % of whose respondents were physicians. Of the total of registry managers, only 62 % had received courses or training during the last ten years. 93 % of the total of surveyed physicians considered it necessary and useful to receive training on this topic.

Conclusions: The results obtained allow broadly justifying the need for the development of the training plan for human resources linked to the cancer registry.
