A Compared Study for Improving the Specialty Program for Health Organization and Administration

Introduction: Improvement in postgraduate education is essential for updating the knowledge and skills of university graduates, with a view to achieving a higher level in their professional or knowledge practice, as well as in their scientific skills.
Objective: To identify elements of improvement of the specialty program for health organization and administration.
Methods: A comparative study was carried out in 2021-2023, taking as reference 43 programs of universities ranked at the top of the Quacquarelli Symonds (QS) international ranking, available in full text on the Internet. Common indicators were selected for comparison, according to regions and programs of study: geographical location, languages, socioeconomic status, program name and duration, objectives, courses or modules, work towards degree completion and occupational profile.
Results: The studied programs are offered in three different geographic regions. Courses such as financial management and accounting, leadership in health care, organizational behavior and strategic communication were identified with greater presence in the studied programs than in the program of the National School of Public Health. It is proposed to incorporate courses such as strategic communication, organizational behavior and leadership in health care into the program, during a period of professional practice.
Conclusions: The results of the comparative study allowed the characterization of the training programs of reference in health administration and that of the specialty of Health Organization and Administration of the National School of Public Health, which made it possible to determine significant aspects that could contribute to the improvement of the current program of that specialty.
