A Look at the Scientific Principles of Medical Education in Cuba

Abstract

Introduction: Scientific research into the training processes for health professionals, technicians, and workers is based on the theoretical framework of medical education science, which is still under development, meaning that there is no consensus on its main categories and scientific principles.

Objective: To examine the scientific principles guiding the science of medical education in Cuba.

Methods: A literature review was conducted on the principles of medical education in Cuba up to February 26, 2024, in articles, doctoral theses, and books. Analysis and synthesis were used as the main method for the research, which allowed for theoretical reflections on the use of the principles that pillar the science of medical education in Cuba.

Results: The similarities and differences in the statements are presented, as well as the need for a definition of specific principles in the construction of this science as a basis for scientific results and consensus in their use.

Conclusions: The construction of this science requires the strengthening of its theoretical framework, including its principles.
