Abstract

Introduction: In 2015, the United Nations General Assembly approved the document “Transforming our world: the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development.” Universities play an important role in achieving its goals, as they have the social responsibility of training professionals who are, at the same time, responsible for the creation and dissemination of knowledge and promoters of science and innovation at all levels.

Objective: To describe the main results of the articulation of the Sustainable Development Goals with strategic planning at the University of Medical Sciences of Cienfuegos.

Authors' position: Greater progress is recognized in Sustainable Development Goals three, four, five, ten, and 13, while Sustainable Development Goals seven and 15 are considered to require greater effort to promote their fulfillment in medical science universities.

Conclusions: The strategic plan designed for the 2020-2024 five-year period at the University of Medical Sciences in Cienfuegos enabled its growth as a higher education institution, as well as the implementation of the Sustainable Development Goals of the 2030 Agenda.
