Abstract

Introduction: In the medico-legal field, first aid certificates for injured persons are key documents. However, their legal value is often compromised by deficiencies in their preparation, particularly when professionals lack adequate training in forensic traumatology. This situation poses serious challenges for the proper administration of justice.

Objective: To evaluate how a training program in forensic traumatology influences the quality of first aid certificates for the injured.

Methods: Using a quasi-experimental educational design, 30 intentionally selected physicians were trained. The training program combined Problem-Based Learning with clinical simulations, emphasizing the legal framework and objective description of injuries. One hundred certificates (50 pre- and 50 post-intervention) were compared using standardized document quality parameters.

Results: After the intervention, a 30% improvement in the overall quality of the certificates was observed. Errors in the description of injuries decreased significantly, and legal practitioners reported greater reliability in the documents evaluated.

Conclusions: The implementation of active methodologies in medical training contributes significantly to the issuance of more rigorous and technically sound certificates. These findings reinforce the need to include forensic traumatology as an essential component in the continuing education of medical personnel to ensure reliable documents and more transparent judicial processes.
