Abstract

Introduction: The fundamental teaching activity of the Center for Academic Development in Drug Addiction is the master's program in drug abuse prevention, which is certified as a “Program of Excellence”.

Objective: To describe the relevance and impact on social practice of the

master's program in drug abuse prevention.

Methods: A descriptive cross-sectional study was conducted of the main results obtained during the implementation of the five completed editions of the master's program in drug abuse prevention. The records of the 91 master's students who received their degrees were taken into account, as well as the self-evaluations of each edition and two external evaluations carried out by the National Accreditation Board (2018 and 2024).

Results: Among the graduates, psychologists (31.9%), psychiatrists (26.3%), and nurses (10.9%) predominated. Theses mainly focused on diagnoses (61.5%) and interventions (35.2%). After graduating, most graduates received promotions (81.3%), increased their scientific and technical activity (68.5%), and published scientific papers (62.6%). All of them gave positive evaluations of the master's program.

Conclusions: The program was evaluated by graduates as relevant and having a favorable impact on social practice. The majority of graduates were psychologists, psychiatrists, and nurses, who developed theses focused on diagnosis and intervention. Favorable indicators were identified in terms of promotions received, scientific and technical activity carried out, and scientific publications produced.
