Perceptions of the Use of Artificial Intelligence for Learning among Latin American Nursing Students
Abstract
Introduction: In the health sciences, artificial intelligence is progressively transforming educational processes. In nursing, the use of generative tools presents both opportunities and challenges for academic learning.
Objective: To determine the perceptions of Latin American nursing students regarding the use of artificial intelligence for learning.
Methods: A quantitative, descriptive, cross-sectional study was conducted with 240 Latin American nursing students between 2025 and 2026. Non-probabilistic convenience sampling was used; data were collected via an online questionnaire comprising four dimensions; and the analysis was descriptive and comparative, using the chi-square test.
Results: 91.3% of participants used artificial intelligence tools to support academic learning. Over 80% perceived that this promotes learning and autonomy and optimizes study time. The risks identified were technological dependency, academic plagiarism and the impairment of critical thinking. 89.2% considered formal training in artificial intelligence to be necessary. No statistically significant differences were reported between the countries studied (p>0.05).
Conclusions: Students view artificial intelligence as a useful tool for learning, although they report academic and ethical concerns that underscore the need to improve digital literacy and promote its responsible use in nursing education.
