Teaching Strategy for the Development of the Master's program in Health Computer Science

Abstract

Introduction: Postgraduate education is the highest level of the National Education System, and its main objectives are the postgraduate academic training of university graduates, which is why improving its quality is a priority for the Cuban education system.

Objective: To design a teaching strategy for the development of the Master's program in Health computer science at the University of Medical Sciences in Pinar del Río.

Methods: The research was based on the dialectical approach, which was taken as the philosophical basis for the elements discussed. From this approach, theoretical and empirical research methods, procedures, and techniques were used, such as analysis and synthesis, induction and deduction, and documentary analysis.

Results: The strategy developed takes into account the improvement of course design for the development of skills related to know-how in the area of knowledge and the methodological structure of theses; the improvement of the quality of teacher training for the development of the teaching-learning process of the master's courses, from the link between virtual and face-to-face learning and the use of the project method; and the leading role of the student during the teaching-learning process of the master's courses from the link between virtual and face-to-face learning and the exchange with specialists.

Conclusions: The implementation of the strategy developed made it possible to improve the quality of postgraduate training for students enrolled in the master's program, as well as the level of the teachers.
