Technological Resources to Enhance Learning in the Subject of Human Embryology

Authors

Abstract

Introduction: Teaching Human Embryology can be complex due to the abstract nature of the processes and the need to visualize structures and stages that are not easily observable in daily clinical practice. Clinical simulation is an advanced educational tool that can significantly improve understanding of embryonic and fetal development processes, as well as the identification of anomalies and the application of knowledge in clinical contexts. Various modalities have been used to visualize embryology, from simple static drawings to interactive dynamic 3D models.

Objective: To identify technological resources to enhance learning in the subject of Human Embryology.

Methods: A search for up-to-date scientific material was conducted in academic databases such as Medline (via PubMed), Google Scholar, and Web of Sciences, covering the period from January 2010 to June 2024, in Spanish and English. The keywords “teaching of embryology” and “technological resources for teaching embryology” were used.

Results: The main concepts, resources, and technologies were analyzed, which allowed us to identify the importance and limitations of learning in the subject of Human Embryology.

Conclusions: Through the use of interactive tools and 3D models, students can explore embryonic development in an immersive and practical way. Despite technical and integration challenges, the benefits of a deeper understanding and practical application of knowledge make the use of technological resources a valuable tool in embryology education.
