Comprehensive Educational Model in Emergency Medicine for Fire Departments in Ecuador
Abstract
Introduction: The design of the comprehensive educational model in emergency medicine for fire departments follows a pedagogical and operational logic that goes beyond the mere transmission of technical knowledge. It is conceived as a dynamic training ecosystem, anchored in the reality of the Daule Canton, integrating knowledge, practices, values, and social relationships to strengthen prehospital response capacity from a humanistic, community-oriented, and sustainable perspective.
Objective: To present the design of the comprehensive educational model in emergency medicine for fire departments in Ecuador.
Methods: The pedagogical, structural, and functional foundations of the proposed model were presented, and it was validated using the Delphi method with experts in medical education and emergencies.
Results: The seven essential components of the model are explained: participatory diagnosis, contextualized curriculum, situated simulation, formative assessment, inter-institutional articulation, training of local trainers, and community engagement; as well as the specific implementation actions associated with each. Finally, the validation process using the Delphi method is presented, a strategy recognized for achieving expert consensus in the development of complex proposals in the fields of health and education.
Conclusions: This design constitutes an innovative proposal that not only improves the firefighter's technical competence but also strengthens their performance as a community health agent, their psychosocial well-being, and their capacity for institutional coordination. Each implementation action has been designed to be feasible, inclusive, and sustainable in the specific context of the Daule Canton.
